AIG CEO to testify to Congress

NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — American International Group CEO Robert Benmosche agreed to testify before a congressional panel about the rescued insurer's plans to repay taxpayers, said a person with knowledge of the matter.

Benmosche, 65, may appear before the Congressional Oversight Panel in Washington at a hearing scheduled for May 26, said the person, who declined to be identified because the appearance hasn't been announced yet. The panel, created to oversee the financial bailout, is chaired by Elizabeth Warren.

Under Benmosche, who started at the New York-based insurer in August, AIG has been selling assets to repay loans included in its $182.3 billion government rescue, needed after soured housing market bets drained the company's cash in 2008. The appearance was reported yesterday by Dow Jones.
