Allied World staff help out at Casemates
There was some light at the end of the tunnel for Allied World employees as they took part in a major excavation project in Dockyard last week.
About 25 of the company's staff got their hands dirty by clearing a tunnel discovered earlier this year under the old Casemates prison and the surrounding buildings last Thursday as part of an initiative by the Maritime Museum.
The Maritime Museum is hoping the findings at the prison will have historical significance and will be open to the public in the future.
Charity committee chairman Kent Smith was one of the staff who spent the afternoon digging, demolishing and hauling concrete and lumber. "It was difficult but fun work and a great learning experience for everyone," he said.
Dr. Edward Harris, executive director of the Maritime Museum, was on hand to give a tour of the area and a brief history lesson to the Allied World employees.
Last year employees painted the outside of senior residents' apartments at Purvis Park.
