Shareholders of Bermuda-based life reinsurer Annuity and Life Re Holdings Ltd. yesterday overwhelmingly approved an amalgamation of the company with Pope Ltd.

More than 77 percent of shareholders voted at yesterday's special meeting in Hamilton and more than 99 percent of them approved the merger plan, the company said yesterday.

Once the transaction closes, Annuity said its shareholders will be contacted regarding payments for their shares.
