Bank stops debit card cash back
The Bank of Bermuda has responded to claims that customers were not informed about the discontinuation of bank's one percent cash back reward on its debit cards, saying that its clients were notified in their statements at the start of the year.
The Royal Gazette was contacted by clients who had been using their cards, but were unaware they were not getting cash back.
But the bank moved to reassure its customers that they will not incur the annual debit card fee as a result of the discontinuation.
Todd Wilcox, head of personal financial services at the Bank of Bermuda said: "Bank of Bermuda notified debit card customers in January via their statements that the bank would be discontinuing its one percent cash back reward programme.
"Bank of Bermuda decided to streamline its debit/credit card rewards offering and discontinue the cash back programme.
"However, in discontinuing the programme the bank decided to drop the annual debit card fee, which was normally applied to debit card customers' accounts.
"Bank of Bermuda already offers one of the Islands' most rewarding and generous credit card rewards programme and is investing in new technology to bring the best and most convenient debit/credit card offering to customers."
