'Bermuda in Boston' to showcase Island insurance
Bermuda's insurance industry will take centre stage at a top conference in Boston next week.
The conference entitled 'Bermuda in Boston 2008 Conference', which is run by global investment bank Fox-Pitt Kelton Cochran Caronia Waller, will take place at the Boston Harbour Hotel on Monday September 15 and Tuesday September 16.
Kicking-off the event on the first day will be Lazard's deputy chairman and guest speaker Gary Parr, while the second day starts with 'Managing Risk in an Uncertain World' hosted by PartnerRe Ltd. executive vice-president and chief financial officer Albert Benchimol.
Jack Nicholson, chief operating officer of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, and Sharon Binnun, chief financial officer of the Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, will then talk about the Florida insurance markets and what the future holds for them, followed by a speech from Neill Currie, CEO of RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd.
Other Bermuda-based contributors include Andrew Carrier, president of Argo Re, Christopher Harris, president and CEO of Montpelier Re Holdings, and Jeff Consolino, executive vice-president and chief financial officer of Validus Re in a seminar on global expansion discussing acquisition versus organic growth.
Investment strategies in volatile financial markets form the focus for debate by Flagstone Reinsurance Holdings Ltd.'s chief financial officer James O'Shaughnessy, Andrew Cook, president and chief financial officer of Harbor Point Re, and Grace Osborne from Standard & Poor's.
The final afternoon features Chris O'Kane, CEO of Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd., with Ed Easop, vice-president of policies and procedures, and Bob DeRose, vice-president of reinsurance, at AM Best Co. and Neil McConachie, chief financial officer and chief risk officer at Lancashire Insurance Group speaking on the topic of enterprise risk management and capital modelling.
The day is rounded off with a discussion on crop insurance and how it is growing in Bermuda, conducted by John Drakeford, head of Argicultural Specialty at BMS, Kenneth LeStrange, chairman, president and CEO at Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd., and ProAg's chief compliance officer, Benson Latham.
