Bermuda lawyer awarded $77,789 for tracking down Madoff funds
Lawyers have continued to receive a handsome pay-day in the fall out from Bernard Madoff's bankruptcy, with Bermuda's Williams Barristers & Attorneys awarded $77,789 in costs for helping track down the fraudster's assets, according to a report by The AM Law Daily.
New York based media company said that US bankruptcy judge Burton Lifland has so far approved more than $3 million in fees and expense requests by 10 firms assisting Baker & Hostetler in recovering the money.
Baker partner Irving Picard, court-appointed trustee in the bankruptcy, has personally been awarded more than $35 million in fees and expenses for work done by his firm in the case, according to the New York Law Journal. To date, the NYLJ reports that Baker & Hostetler as a whole has received close to $97 million for its Madoff work.
On Tuesday, Judge Lifland approved roughly $601,000 in additional fees for Picard and another $34.6 million to Baker & Hostetler for work done in the case between February 1 and May 31, according to the NYLJ.
