BSBDC offers tips to small businesses on how to survive the downturn
Businesses will get some tips on how to survive in the current financial crisis thanks to a new brochure launched by the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation (BSBDC).
The launch of the new handout was part of a comprehensive campaign to help business owners and entrepreneurs who are struggling with today's economic downturn, culminating in a seminar on economic stability matters at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on January 13.
Finance Minister Paula Cox, who was at the BSBDC to launch the brochure, said she was excited about the "proactive and pre-emptive" approach taken by the BSBDC to provide business owners with useful strategies that could be applied not only to business, but also to people's personal lives.
She commended the BSBDC on the brochure, which follows the government's mantra of "tenderness through tough times", and encouraged the public to pick up a copy from the BSBDC.
"It is small, easy to read, and easy to understand," she said. "The management team here is great, with expertise, experience and compassion. Compassion is critically important in these times."
A highlight of the brochure, as pointed out by BSBDC board member and businessman, Randy Stafford, was the emphasis on service.
"In these hard times, people need to look for better service," he said. "Repetition of happy customers is very important to business, especially in tough times."
BSBDC general manager, Michelle Khaldun talked about the importance of communication in the economic downturn, both with staff and customers.
"Entrepreneurs create opportunities where others do not see them," she said. "The BSBDC is happy to take a proactive approach in offering practical advice to entrepreneurs to help them succeed. We even expect to see some new businesses created during this period."
"It is important to understand that information is power," said BSBDC deputy chairman, Phil Jones. "Take advantage of the services BSBDC offers to the general public. Avail yourself of the information from BSBDC, free of charge."
The brochure is available at the BSBDC, Sofia House, 48 Church Street for collection during from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
