BSX advances 1%

Gains in the share prices of Butterfield Bank and Argus Group Holdings Ltd. helped the Island's stock market to rise by almost one percent yesterday.

Butterfield rose 10 cents, or 1.9 percent, to close on $5.45, as 107,500 shares changed hands.

It continued a remarkable eight-day streak in which the bank's stock price has risen 56 percent, since it announced first-quarter results.

Insurer Argus also gained 10 cents, or 1.4 percent, to close on $7.10, on the trading of 1,700 shares.

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange gained 21.26 points, or 0.9 percent, to 2,355.69.

Volume was 109,300shares and turnover was $593,205.
