BSX falls below 5,000

Bermuda Commercial Bank saw the biggest fall on the Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) in a week in which the Index fell below the 5,000 mark.

The BCB fell $1 (10 percent) to close the week on $9, on the trading of 5,000 shares. Butterfield Bank also took a slight fall, losing five cents to close on $17, as 72,876 of its shares changed hands.

The insurance sector also had a negative week, as both Argus Group Ltd. and BF&M Ltd. saw their share prices fall by 50 cents. Argus finished the week on $16, on the trading of 5,325 shares, and BF&M finished on $20, as 5,900 of its shares changed hands.

Transportation stocks slipped back as well, with Bermuda Container Line Ltd. tumbling 95 cents to $13.05, as 1,000 shares trdaed, and Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. fell 30 cents to $6.15. BAS saw 5,000 shares trade.

The only local stocks to advance were in the utilities sector, where Belco gained 50 cents to end the week on $21 and KeyTech Ltd., owners of the Bermuda Telephone Company, rose 75 cents to end the week on $14.25.

The BSX fell back 23.65 points, or 0.47 percent, to end Friday on 4,998.67.
