BSX soars 8.2%

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index bounced back last week with a rise of more than eight percent.

Butterfield Bank was the main driver, soaring 32.1 percent, jumping from $1.45 to $1.85. At one stage in the week, the bank was trading at $2.

Nearly 232,600 Butterfield shares traded over the five days.

It wasn't such a good week, however, for Bermuda Press Holdings Ltd. (BPH) or LOM Holdings Ltd.

BPH, the owner of The Royal Gazette, as well as a commercial printing operation, retail outlets and a real estate portfolio, plunged 28.8 percent to $8.55, on the trading of 3,600 shares.

Broker-dealer LOM slid 50 cents, or 13.7 percent, to close the week on $3.15, as 16,000 shares changed hands.

Insurer BF&M Ltd. also had a down week, slipping 55 cents, or 4.2 percent, to $12.50, as 17,010 shares were exchanged.

The Index rose 119.46 points, or 8.23 percent, to 1,451.09. Volume was nearly 279,000 shares and turnover was close to $820,000.
