BSX surges 2.9%

Local stocks gained ground last week, bolstered by big climbs for both KeyTech Ltd. and Argus Group Holdings Ltd.

KeyTech was the biggest climber on the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX), gaining 80 cents, or 11.4 percent, to end the week on $7.80, as 24,528 shares changed hands.

Argus enjoyed a boost to its stock price as well, climbing 45 cents, or 6.9 percent, to $6.95, as just over 23,000 shares were exchanged.

Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. gained 5.3 percent as nearly 2,200 of its shares traded, while Butterfield Bank jumped 3.8 percent to $1.35, as 31,600 shares were exchanged.

Bermuda Commercial Bank also gained ground, climbing 32 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $9.87, as 9,400 shares changed hands.

Insurer BF&M Ltd. bucked the positive trend, plunging 8.3 percent during the week, as the share price fell by $1 to $11 and more than 43,000 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette / BSX Index ended the week up 37.16 points, or 2.9 percent, to close on 1,286.55.

Share volume was more than 139,000 while US and Bermuda dollar turnover was close to $1.04 million.

The BSX was closed for trading yesterday for the Bermuda Day holiday.
