BSX tumbles 3.5%

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) index tumbled 3.5 percent during last week's trading, as turnover topped $3.3 million.

Three companies saw their share prices suffer substantial falls in a turbulent week for stock markets all over the world.

Butterfield Bank plunged (60 cents) 4.8 percent to hit its 52-week low of $12, as 250,090 shares traded.

Insurer and pension provider Argus Group also tumbled 70 cents (5.1 percent) to hit its 52-week low of $13, as 3,250 shares changed hands.

Bermuda Aviation Services suffered the biggest decline last week, falling 7.3 percent. Five thousand BAS shares traded, as the company's share price fell by 40 cents to $5.10.

The one issue to climb was property developer West Hamilton holdings Ltd., which rose 20 cents (1.5 percent) to $13.20, on the trading of 200 shares.

Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. remained unchanged on $12 after 9,300 shares changed hands, while Belco Holdings Ltd. and LOM (Holdings) Ltd. each traded around 5,000 shares, but their stock prices were unchanged.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 1.2 percent, shedding 11.06 points to close the week on 920.31.
