Budding entrepreneurs to get tips on small business start-ups
Bermuda's budding entrepreneurs will find out how to set up and run a small business at a conference held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess tomorrow.
The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Seminar will feature Aubery Aggrey Stephenson, founder, owner and president of Federal Management Systems Inc., a Washington DC based government contractor which supports agencies nationally and internationally with offices in several cities in the US and the Caribbean.
Guest speaker Valence Williams, senior vice-president of Maxim Group LLC, also of New York, will also be hosting the event.
Among the topics set to be discussed are entrepreneurial self-assessment, defining company objectives, writing a business plan, legal structure, marketing mix and strategy, time management and social responsibilities.
Financing small businesses, traditional and alternative financing, proficient accounting, operational finance, reinvestment in the business, diversification of profits, potential for global marketing and financing and understanding capital markets are also on the agenda.
Mr. Stephenson has a wide range of experience in business, having previously worked as an independent consultant to private companies and local government organisations providing management and technical services relating to accounting and financial analysis, federal government procurement assistance, audit services, business management services and community economic development services.
He also held a variety of positions including vice-president of finance and manager of contracts for Technical and Management Services Corporation, a Washington DC-based government contractor and held management, programme, and systems analyst positions with the national office of the Internal Revenue Service.
Mr. Williams has an extensive background in the financial services industry and has been an investment consultant for high net worth individuals and corporations for more than 20 years as well as being among an early group of consultants on Wall Street to successfully globalise investment strategies.
He has also been affiliated with, among others, Shearson Lehman, Prudential-Bache and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.
The event, which is free, starts at 8.30a.m. until 4p.m., with lunch and beverages included, as well as prizes on offer.
