Butterfield Bank shares gained almost one percent yesterday and drove local stocks higher.

The bank gained five cents, or 0.9 percent, to close on $5.45 on the trading of 4,850 shares.

Telecommunications company KeyTech Ltd. stayed unchanged on $9.50 as 2,500 of its shares changed hands.

And 500 shares also traded in Kentucky Fried Chicken Bermuda, which remained on $5.50.

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) rose 8.74 points, or 0.37 percent, to close on 2,361.4.

Volume was 7.850 shares and turnover was $52,930.

The BSX Insurance Index slipped by 0.28 points (0.03 percent) to 788.77.
