Butterfield Bank shares rose 1.5 percent yesterday to buoy local stocks.

The bank's shares rose five cents off its 52-week low to reach $3.35 as 8,974 shares changed hands in Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) trading.

Bermuda Commercial Bank was the only other domestic company to trade, remaining unchanged on $7.50, on the trading of 1,100 shares.

The Royal Gazette / BSX Index gained 8.74 points to close the week on 2,052.9.

Trading volume was 10,074 shares and turnover was $35,566.
