Butterfield up 3.4%

Butterfield Bank surged 3.4 percent last week in brisk trading on the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX).

Just shy of 120,000 of the bank's shares were traded during the five days, as the share price closed up five cents at $1.50.

Ninety of Butterfield's eight percent preference shares also changed hands, with the price remaining unchanged on $1,200.

It wasn't such a good week, however, for insurer BF&M Ltd., which fell 6.9 percent.

The company's share price slipped 90 cents to $12.10, as 450 shares traded.

Shares of Ascendant Group Ltd., owner of electricity provider Belco, also traded briskly. But the share price remained unchanged on $14, as 4,700 shares changed hands.

The Royal Gazette / BSX Index climbed 17.65 points, or 1.4 percent, to close on 1,261.90.

Volume for the week topped 125,000 shares, while turnover was more than $355,000.
