Customers of Bermuda CableVision's Broadband Link high-speed data service will now be able to enjoy double the broadband speed for the same cost.

CableVision's Broadband Link, which was introduced in April 2007, is the Island's only symmetrical data service, and differs from DSL in that the customer's data is carried over its advanced fibre-based broadband network and not over telephone lines.

Yesterday CableVision doubled the speed of its 2Mb x 2Mb Broadband Link data service to 4Mb x 4Mb on its platform, while keeping the monthly rate for the service unchanged at $35 per month, means it will be faster than ever to download videos, software, photos, music and games.

The telecommunications provider will also be upgrading its software for the product to Docsis 2.0, increasing the bandwidth for the product as well as providing higher upload speeds, which customers will receive through the same modem and will not need to download any new software at home.

"Receiving double the broadband performance for the same price is good news for our customers, and we're happy to be introducing these enhanced speeds just in time for the holidays," said Terry Roberson, general manager of Bermuda CableVision.

"With Broadband Link's symmetrical connection to your Internet Service Provider (ISP), it's not just the blazing fast downloads that are remarkable, it's also the fastest way to send video and photos to friends and family everywhere because the upload speeds are just as fast.

"Plus, you don't even need a phone line, which is important to that large percentage of the Bermuda market that use only cell phones.

"These are just some of the advantages of being on our broadband network, and now with double the speed available on our platform, there's never been a better time to come over to Broadband Link and also increase your speeds with your ISP."

Participating ISPs who are offering CableVision's 4Mb x 4Mb Broadband Link with their service include Logic, Fort Knox, North Rock and Transact. Customers may also sign up by calling CableVision directly.

The cost for Broadband Link is $35 per month, in addition to the Internet package purchased by the customer from their ISP.

The service is installed by a professional CableVision technician, at a one-time installation fee of $50 for existing CableVision customers. Non-CableVision customers require a full installation, which costs $100. The service also requires a cable modem, which costs $55, added to the price of the installation.
