CellularOne launches text appeal for Haiti relief fund

CellularOne has announced that its customers can make donations to the Haiti earthquake victims via text messages from their mobile devices.

CellularOne's postpaid customers will receive an SMS text message appealing for donations.

Postpaid customers can text the word 'Haiti' to short code '90999' to send a $10 donation from their mobile device. All proceeds will benefit the Bermuda Red Cross' Haitian Earthquake Appeal Fund. Donations will be charged to CellularOne customers' postpaid accounts and appear as a line item on their monthly bill.

In addition, the company will be matching any Bermuda Red Cross earthquake-relief donations that CellularOne staff makes through to February 2.

CellularOne's chief operating officer Frank Amaral said: "CellularOne and its customers are very proud to be part of the Haitian relief effort. We hope that our customers will respond to this significant cause and demonstrate the generosity that the people of Bermuda are known for."
