The 2010 Robert Clements/Ace Scholarship recipient was selected from its biggest-ever pool of candidates with 43 students vying for the prestigious award.

Jacari Brimmer-Landy, a graduate from Saltus Grammar School, proved to be the winner and was presented with the award by Lori Samson, chief administration officer at Ace Bermuda, at a ceremony held at the company's offices yesterday.

The Robert Clements/Ace Scholarship, which is in its 15th year, is awarded to Bermudian students interested in following careers in the international insurance industry and is given annually for up to four years to a qualified student working full-time towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in insurance, risk management, actuarial science or related subject such as accounting, law or economics.

The largest number of applicants was previously 28 before this year's entry.

Mr. Brimmer-Landy, who will start the Rotman Commerce Programme at the University of Toronto majoring in Finance and Economics in September, plans to pursue a career in corporate law.

The Ace/Bermuda College Education Award was also presented to Priscilla Tavares, a recent Bermuda College graduate with an Associate Degree in Education.

Ms Tavares intends to follow a career in criminology and will commence a Bachelor's degree in the subject at Nottingham Trent University.

The Ace Group and Bermuda College in 2008 formed a partnership to help students understand the link between their studies and the workplace and officially launched the Ace/Bermuda College Education Award last year.

Recipients of the award are qualified Bermuda College graduates who are enrolled in at least their third year of a four-year degree programme at an accredited university, with the award of $15,000 covering tuition and fees up to two years immediately following graduation from Bermuda College.

Both students are also offered employment at Ace during their winter and summer holidays as part of the company's student employment programme.
