Bermuda-based insurer Catlin Group Ltd. is set to appoint Nicholas Lyons as an independent non-executive director next month.

His appointment, on August 6, will be subject to election to the Catlin board of directors by shareholders at the company's annual general meeting in 2009.

Mr. Lyons was formerly a managing director of Lehman Brothers in London, where he headed the European Financial Institutions Group.

Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, he held executive positions at JP Morgan & Co. and Salomon Brothers in London.

He currently serves as non-executive chairman of Miller Insurance Services Ltd., an international specialist insurance and reinsurance broker based in London.

Alton Irby III, who has served as an independent non-executive director since May 2007, will resign from the board next month due to other commitments.

• Former Scottish Re Group Ltd. and Everest Re Bermuda Ltd. executive Otto De Vries has moved on to insurance investment specialist Strategic Asset Alliance in Bellingham, Washington state.

Mr. De Vries, who was most recently vice-president for asset / liability management and annuity reinsurance at Scottish Re, takes up the post of director of asset / liability management.

He has more than 15 years of experience in the investment and asset / liability management of various insurance and reinsurance portfolios, having also worked at Banker's Reserve Life Insurance Co. and Atlantic Portfolio Analytics & Management.
