Cooper lowers earnings forecast

NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — Bermuda-based Cooper Industries Ltd., the maker of Halo-brand lighting, issued a reduced fourth-quarter profit forecast less than two weeks after cutting the outlook without providing specifics.

Fourth-quarter profit will be 70 cents to 80 cents a share, excluding restructuring costs, the company said on Monday in a statement. Previously, Cooper forecast earnings of 83 cents to 92 cents a share. The average of 13 analysts' estimates compiled by Bloomberg was for earnings of 74 cents a share.

Cooper said demand has weakened at both the electrical and tools operations, particularly in the US and western Europe, during the quarter.
