Digicel thanks customers for patience

Digicel has thanked its customers for their patience after a system upgrade at the weekend caused widespread disruption in service.

The mobile operator said it implemented the "very elite" 3G+ network technology on Sunday morning, with the process now 95 percent complete.

"Our technical team is on hand and working around the clock to resolve the minor issues which are a given with any major upgrade," said Digicel Bermuda chief executive officer Wayne Caines in a statement yesterday

"I am pleased to report that, although some issues are still outstanding, most have been resolved."

The new technology is reportedly among the most advanced in the world, and will make Digicel the fastest mobile network on the Island. Its introduction, however, left many users without a connection.

The company has asked customers still experiencing problems to contact their help line by dialing 611 from a Digicel phone, or 500-5611 from any phone.
