Digicel's 3G+ deal with Ericsson
Digicel Bermuda has announced it has signed a partnership with 3G mobile technology provider, Ericsson, to provide its new 3G+ network in Bermuda.
With an investment of $9 million and construction well under way, Digicel's 3G+ network - featuring the latest in 3G technology, known as HSPA+ - will offer up to six times faster speeds, better quality of calls and wider coverage than any other network on the Island.
Ericsson is using brand new 3G+ equipment to build the new network.
Digicel Bermuda CEO Wayne Caines said: "With the launch of 3G+ from Digicel, Bermuda joins only 12 other countries in the world who have upgraded to this elite new technology and it will put us firmly on the map for any potential businesses or investors looking at Bermuda as a base.
"In addition, our customers will benefit from a network that offers the fastest speeds and better quality of calls with widespread coverage. Our team is working around the clock to roll-out the state-of-the-art 3G+ network which we look forward to launching in the coming months."
Niclas Wadestig, key account manager for Digicel in Ericsson Latin America, said: "We are excited to be chosen as the supplier to design and build the first 21Mb 3G HSPA+ Network for Digicel Bermuda.
"Ericsson's technology leadership combined with our global experience will help Digicel provide an enriched communication experience for its customers."
Niklas Heuveldop, president of Ericsson Central America and Caribbean, said: "Ericsson is proud to have been selected by Digicel for this strategic project and to be the supplier of the first 21 MBPS network in Bermuda. Our mission is to ensure that our partner Digicel has a network that provides efficient and attractive mobile internet services for the advanced consumers in Bermuda."
