TORONTO (Bloomberg) — Dollar Tree Inc., the third-largest US discount-store operator, has bought the assets of Canada's Dollar Giant Store (B.C.) Ltd. for about C$52 million ($51.4 million) in cash, expanding internationally for the first time.
Dollar Tree anticipates that the transaction will be completed by mid-November, according to a statement issued yesterday.
The acquisition of Vancouver-based Dollar Giant will add 85 stores in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan to Dollar Tree's more than 3,900 stores in 48 US states. Dollar Giant stores offer general merchandise at prices of C$1.25 or less.
