Empowerment key for IAAP's 2009 conference
Empowering administrators and helping them succeed in their careers will be the focus for a conference held by the International Association of Administrative Professional (IAAP) Bermuda Chapter this week.
The IAAP's Annual Administrative Day, entitled 'Brilliance in Action', will be hosted by Simon T Bailey, founder of Brilliance Institute Inc. at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess tomorrow between 8.45 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.
The event will kick-off at 9am with a talk by Mr. Bailey on professional brilliance, looking specifically at areas of administrative brilliance, how to tap into and understand it, before turning to personal brilliance, and then wrapping it up and working on an action plan in an interactive afternoon session.
Mr. Bailey said he will get attendees to appreciate that they are the eyes and ears of their organisations, to see what challenges lie ahead and to adapt to them in the workplace, while listening out for opportunities to better themselves and others, particularly in terms of talent and passing it on to their leaders.
"They need to really look at themselves as a partner within the organisation in contributing to where the organisation is moving in the future," he said.
Mr. Bailey, author of 'Realise Your Brilliance', a top 100 book for corporate Americans, has a background in challenging and teaching businesses and organisations to clear obstacles to brilliance in their cultures, processes and people, resulting in higher levels of retention and productivity and ultimately a successful bottom line.
He has done work for Fortune 500 companies, national associations, government agencies and educational institutions, including Microsoft, Verizon, State Farm Insurance, GMAC Home Services and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel.
About 100 administrative assistants from across Bermuda are expected to attend the event. Registration costs $285 for IAAP members and $315 for non-members.
