FAC expands security offerings

First Atlantic Commerce (FAC) has announced its latest 3D Secure™ implementations with Allied Irish Bank Merchant Services (AIBMS), Elavon and Barclaycard.

AIBMS, a joint venture between AIB and First Data, is Ireland's largest provider of card acceptance services, and a global leader in electronic commerce and payment services. Elavon is a global provider of merchant acquiring services. And Barclaycard is one of the largest payment processors in the UK.

FAC is now certified to AIBMS, Elavon and Barclaycard for 3-D Secure™ Verified by Visa and MasterCard® SecureCode™.

By certifying for 3-D Secure™ with Europe's leading banks and processors, FAC enables merchants to use FAC's simple '3-D Secure only' payer authentication solutions to obtain liability shift for chargebacks on certain reason codes.

3-D Secure™ can be used effectively to determine the enrollment status of the issuing bank and the cardholder so merchants can pre-determine the risk profile of new consumers in advance of the first transaction. This means that merchants can determine if they would have issuer liability shift on a chargeback based on the authentication response data.

"The key factor here is that our 3-D Secure™ consumer authentication service does not require that the merchant use our payment gateway for clearing," said FAC's vice-president of marketing and communications, Tricia Lines Hill. "Merchants can use their existing payment gateway alongside our MPI so the authentication can be done as either a standalone solution or in conjunction with payment processing."

FAC's online payment and risk mitigation solutions are compliant and PCI certified, and also available to banks and processors in other regions including Europe, CEMEA and Asia.
