Fairmont Southampton Princess axes 13 jobs as downturn bites

The Fairmont Southampton Princess resort has made 13 employees redundant due to the current economic crisis and its impact on the tourism industry, The Royal Gazette can reveal.

The positions were in the stewarding department, which includes waiting staff in the restaurants.

This follows the announcement of 35 job cuts in January and two further positions being made redundant at the hotel last month, as reported in the paper.

Norm Mastalir, managing director, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Bermuda, said it was a tough decision to make.

"The Fairmont Southampton continues each day to make the tough decisions required to sustain the hotel's operations," he said.

"As part of those decisions, I can confirm that the hotel has made redundant 13 positions.

"Letting colleagues go is tremendously difficult at any time and I want to reiterate our gratitude to these colleagues for their service to the hotel."
