Govt. seeks communication system provider
The Government is looking to replace it's communications systems, and is looking for a contractor for the project. The new system is intended to service a number of government bodies including the Police, the Regiment, the Marine and Ports department, and Customs.
The new system will replace the existing SmartNet and SmartZone radio systems. The proposed system would have to support the existing 2,000 hand and portable communication devices, with provision for growth to more than 3,000.
The selected company would be responsible for the planning, construction, and maintenance of the new system, and is encouraged to use existing on-Island suppliers.
The deadline for companies to express an interest is June 5, with a questionnaire due June 26. Once the contract has been awarded, government hopes that the new system will be up and running by next June.
