Digicel Bermuda customers will be able to receive calls from other users of the network for free in a move which could be set to revolutionise the Island's telecommunications industry.

As of yesterday, all Digicel phone users with post-paid plans or pre-paid accounts will automatically receive on-net incoming calls for no charge for up to three months, as officially unveiled by Digicel Bermuda's CEO Wayne Caines and his staff at City Hall — the first such service offered by a cellular phone company on the Island.

The announcement of the 'Free Incoming Calls' promotion was made by Town Crier Edward Christopher at the event yesterday and it will mean that the company's cell phone customers will no longer have to worry about the cost of taking a call from another Digicel user.

"We have listened to what our customers have had to say," said Mr. Caines.

"Their needs are essentially quite simple: they want the best value for their money and reliable service.

"We responded with this promotion that allows our customers to receive free incoming on-net calls.

"We expect many people to take advantage of this offer that allows you to save money and hence be able to talk more."

Mr. Caines, who believes that half of Bermuda's population is on the Digicel network, said that his customers would have more funds and minutes to make outgoing calls to their family, friends and business contacts as a result of the new deal.

Marc Bean, Junior Minister of Tourism and Transport, who was at the launch, welcomed the move as of benefit to consumers during these hard economic times.

"On behalf of the Bermuda Government, we are always pleased to see a company such as Digicel being innovative and creative, especially in these harsh economic times," he said.

The promotion is available to Digicel Bermuda clients based in Bermuda at any time of the day, even when receiving calls from other Digicel users abroad, and is not valid when overseas, with roaming fees from other service providers applicable.
