Insurers count cost of storms

PARIS (Bloomberg) — The storm along France's western coast last weekend will have a "manageable" impact on French insurers' earnings, Fitch Ratings said.

The ratings company "does not expect losses from the catastrophe to result in a material capital erosion for the French insurance market," Fitch said in a statement today.

"The ratings actions due to the storm are likely to be limited."

At least 50 people were killed by Storm Xynthia, which brought winds up to (100 miles) per hour and surging tides that broke through levees, flooding coastal towns and destroying houses.
