Logic launches 6Mbps service as Internet speed competition hots up
Logic Communications has just launched its 6 Megabits per second (Mbps) service for residential customers as competition for the fastest Internet speeds on the Island hots up.
Logic announced the introduction of the service yesterday as an upgrade for its 4.5 Mbps customers, who will enjoy the faster service for the same price of $129.95.
North Rock launched its 6 Mbps service last month for $159.95, while FKB Transact's fastest speed is still 4.5 Mbps for $129.95.
Only DSL customers are able to take advantage of the 6 Mbps service.
Paul Coleman, vice-president of marketing at Logic, said that the Internet Service Provider was responding to the demand from the market for a faster service.
"All of our Internet service subscribers who had the 4.5 Mbps service have been upgraded to 6 Mbps for no extra charge," he said.
"We have seen that people are using more and more bandwidth, particularly these customers.
"We just wanted to provide them with what they need to enjoy their use of the Internet."
On the business customer front, Cable & Wireless currently offers a 6 Mbps service for $179.95, while TBI offers the same speed for $149.95.
As far as access is concerned, the Minister of Telecommunications reversed the decision of the Telecommunications Commission and approved 6 Mbps and 8 Mbps service as requested by the scheduled carriers, BTC promoting the 6 Mbps service since November for a price of $49 unbundled, as originally requested.
CableVision does not offer the 6 Mbps service or the approved 8 Mbps service, while North Rock Wireless does not offer the 6 Mbps service through its Broadband Wireless service.
