Bermuda-based oil producer Northern Offshore, Ltd. said a fire broke out on one of its North Sea rigs.
There were no injuries resulting from the blaze on the Energy Enhancer jack-up rig, owned by a subsidiary of Northern Offshore, the company said yesterday.
The fire was contained and extinguished by the onboard fire control team.
"We are very pleased that no one was injured during this incident and at no time was there any risk to the well the rig was working on at the time," said Fred Brooks, senior vice-president of operations for Northern Offshore.
The company said 34 members of the rig crew were evacuated as a precautionary measure and the rig should resume normal operations within a few days.
