Outerbridge launches range of hands-free devices
Road safety is at the forefront of a new series of navigation systems and hands-free devices launched by Bermudian Karl Outerbridge.
Mr. Outerbridge decided to market and sell the new products, including GPS units, helmet kits equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology and MP3 capabilities, and hands-free Bluetooth devices for the car and boat, in a bid to reduce the number of accidents on the road.
This follows a report by US President Barack Obama's administration's transportation department which revealed that almost 6,000 people in the US were killed and more than 500,000 were injured last year in vehicle crashes connected to driver distraction, including drivers talking on cell phones and texting, while more than 800,000 vehicles were driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone during the day.
An avid cyclist, Mr. Outerbridge knew that there must be a more efficient and safer way to listen to music, chat on a cell phone, and find out where he was going besides using myriad different objects - all major distractions, when travelling on the road in any form of transportation.
After researching and educating himself, he decided to bring the advanced technology of Parrot and Garmin to the Island through his company and authorised wholesaler Outside the Box Thinking.
"The Parrot Blue tooth devices can help 'Get a Grip' on reckless use of cell phone and audio devices in motor vehicles and motorbikes," he said.
Mr. Outerbridge immediately reached out to the Bermuda Police Force to introduce his new idea to help make driving on the roads safer and easier for residents and visitors alike.
