Role: Retail assistant at Regali, Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa
What is your job? My job is to assist guests in the shop as well as a few behind the scenes tasks. There are so many little jobs within my job, that it is almost impossible not to keep busy! (Well, almost!) Aside from helping our guests find sizes, prices and having friendly conversations with each of them - a lot of work goes on in the stock room. Receiving, entering data, pricing and stock taking are among many of my jobs in the gift shop. Up stairs I also merchandise and organise the store.
What is your favourite part of the job? My favourite part of job has honestly become the little tasks I do such as organising, merchandising and making data sheets. Funnily enough I enjoy doing the tedious tasks other people find irritating. The other part of my job I love is being able to work with such a great staff. Overall, everyone I have met so far has been so warming, welcoming and overall just amazing! I look forward to coming to work everyday because it's like I'm working with friends. I haven't met anyone here who hates their job, the staff is so enthusiastic - we're always smiling.
What is your least favourite part of the job? The least favourite part of my job would definitely be watching guests buy my favourite pieces of merchandise in the store. For someone with a shopping addiction, Regali is not the place to be if you are trying to hold back on buying - everything in the store is so cute!
What is your most interesting experience at work? Tucker's Point is a very interesting place to work, so with that there would certainly be a lot of interesting experiences. One day our entire inventory got deleted, my co-worker and I only had eight hours to enter it all back in while juggling helping the customers, we did it though! Another time our director of retail came in from away and it was like a whirlwind hit the store; all of a sudden 15 tasks were being thrown our way to be done at once. In the end the shop looked fantastic! But I tell you, a lot of responsibilities can be demanded of you all at once, you just need to know how to deal with it; retail can be a very fast paced business and I love it!
What would you be doing otherwise? If I wasn't here, I would be in university probably in Canada pursuing a career that would have been completely wrong for me. I am so grateful to have this job, the opportunity to explore what my true passions are in life and learn a bit more about what I would really like to study in the future.
