Ship brings record-breaking load of containers
A container ship will be bringing in a record-breaking load of containers this week.
And an American military vessel will pay a short visit to the Island tomorrow when she berths at Dockyard.
A Meyer Agencies spokesman confirmed that the Bermuda Islander would be carrying 148 containers from Salem, New Jersey to the Island, which is a larger load than has been brought to Bermuda in history.
After off-loading her cargo, including 24 refrigerated containers, when she arrives tomorrow, the vessel will sail back to the US on Friday morning.
The container ship Somer's Isles arrived from Florida on Sunday and discharged 87 containers, including five refrigerated containers.
Loose cargo included a truck, a 36-foot houseboat and 53 bundles of building materials.
She sailed on Monday morning.
The Oleander arrived at Hamilton's docks on Sunday evening, bringing with her 35 Christmas trees in her load of 213 containers, which included 38 which were refrigerated.
The vessel departed yesterday morning, bound for Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Among the Island's irregular visitors, the military vessel USS Steven W.
Groves will arrive in Dockyard tomorrow and, after taking on fuel and supplies, leave the same day.
The Greek-registered oil tanker Psara arrived last Thursday and anchored in Murray's Anchorage until Monday morning.
Discharging her payload at St. George's oil docks, the chartered vessel sailed yesterday morning back to her original point of origin in St. Croix.
Another oil tanker, the Coral Acropora arrived this morning and berthed at the same place.
The 332-foot Dutch registered vessel will leave after off-loading her cargo.
And two cable ships arrived in the Island's harbours yesterday, the Global Mariner berthing at Dockyard until today when she leaves for Baltimore, and the Cable Enterprise which docked in Hamilton until today when she will shift to Dockyard.
