Solvency II focus for ACCA seminar

Solvency II will be the focus for a two-day seminar held by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and the IIA (the Institute of Internal Auditors) Bermuda Chapter next week.

The theme for the first day will be International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with the forum providing an update on the key current issues in that area and the similarities between IFRS and US GAAP, while the second day will centre on Solvency II and forensic accounting, looking at the the key principles involved in the three pillars, as well as the main types of financial statement fraud, why it is committed and how it can be avoided.

Paula Marcelle-Irish, manager of ACCA Northern Caribbean, will open proceedings and introduce the main presenter Nagin Lad, a practising accountant and registered auditor with more than 30 years experience.

Mr. Lad is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants as well as an educator member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, having taught ACCA papers in Jamaica and Trinidad for more than five years and launched the Nagin Lad Accountancy College in February.

The sessions will be largely interactive with the opportunity for questions and answers. Refreshment breaks and lunch are also included.

The seminar takes place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel on Monday and Tuesday between 8.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on both days.
