THE JOB with BARBARA BELTON BROWN and DOROTHY BILLINGS
Role: Partners in The Stock Xchange, a furniture and household sale management business
What are your jobs? To assist clients with the sale of their furniture, artwork and belongings when they are faced with downsizing, moving, upgrading, estate sales or leaving the Island.
To organise and appraise items for sale. To advertise sale by way of local newspapers, email client base (600-plus people), as well as our own StockX website. To assist clients who wish to furnish an entire home or office. To provide a personal service for specific item requirements as well as dealing with individual consignment sale. To offer an excellent personal "after sale service" to further assist our clients by way of furniture removal and continued selling and disposal of any unwanted items.
What is your favourite part of the job? Every sale is unique and project based. We enjoy meeting so many different people and the ability to assist them with their needs. The job provides a great feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction to us both.
What is your least favourite part of the job? Paperwork!!!
What is your most interesting experience at work? The privilege of selling an amazing collection of local artwork and on one occasion selling the whole contents of a house in 25 minutes.
What would you be doing otherwise? We have given this question a great deal of thought and decided there is nothing else we would rather be doing. We are pleased to announce that 2008 was a very successful year for The Stock Xchange. We organised over 30 complete house sales during the year as well as providing a personal service to many people looking for specific item requirements.
