THE JOB with BRIDGET FIGUR
Age: 29
Role: Website development manager, emedia
What is your job? As the website development manager, I oversee the production of every web project from start to finish. After one of our graphic designers creates the look and feel of a website, the project is handed over to me to write all of the markup and backend code. I also work on other projects such as web banner ads and Flash movies here and there.
What is your favourite part of the job? I enjoy working on a variety of different projects all the time. I also like the feeling of seeing a website through from conception to completion.
What is your least favourite part of the job? Having to be inside on a beautiful day instead of at the beach!
What is your most interesting experience at work? The most interesting part of my job is how it allows me to get a real "insiders" look at Bermuda. I'm constantly meeting with different types of local businesses — everything from start ups to large insurance companies to freelance artists — and I get to learn about what they do, hear their history, etc. I don't think that most other expats are able to be as in touch with the local business sector, and that makes my experience here more unique and interesting.
What would you be doing otherwise? I love making handmade jewellery for myself and for friends, and have sold some online (from a site I designed, of course), but it would be great if I could eventually expand and sell my pieces to everyone.
