THE JOB with LORI INGRAM
Age: 39
Role: Knowledge management specialist, Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust
What is your job? Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust (BHCT) was established as the sole fundraising arm for the Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB). As knowledge management specialist, my job is to provide research that can help the Trust communicate the importance of healthcare in the Bermuda. I also work on the BHCT website and keep our Facebook page up to date. Additionally, I organise meetings with different groups and liaise with the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital redevelopment and public relations officer, as well as act as primary contact for our vendors and service providers.
What is your favourite part of the job? I love that every day BHCT works at bettering healthcare in Bermuda - a goal that ultimately benefits Bermudians, residents and visitors. As we prepare to launch a capital campaign in support of the redevelopment of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, I thrive on the fact that no two days are the same.
This past year, I had the pleasure to help organise the first-ever High Heels race in Bermuda (a charitable event to benefit BHCT and the Bermuda Red Cross) as well as help with the opening gala for Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa, of which BHCT was the beneficiary.
What is your least favourite part of the job? People generally confuse Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust with Bermuda Hospitals Board, so I often help people understand the difference. Bermuda Hospitals Board provides healthcare in Bermuda while the Trust acts as an independent fundraising arm to support them. As a result, all donations to the BHB, small and large, are cared for and distributed by Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust.
Other than that, like most people, it feels as if there are not enough hours in my day, but the work is exciting, the current hospital project is exciting and these are exciting times.
What is your most interesting experience on the job? Escorting the Governor Sir Richard Gozney and his wife, Lady Gozney, on the night of the Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa Gala Opening was certainly an honour. Hosting the High Heels race just two months later was exhilarating with all the planning, meetings and mailings involved. It was all worthwhile to see the support we received from the community. I also enjoy working with our board of trustees who, in my opinion, are some of the best, most brilliant minds on island. For me, this job is the experience of a lifetime. Not only do I interact with individuals who possess a wealth of knowledge and experience, but I also help my entire community. I am incredibly fortunate.
What would you be doing otherwise? I can't imagine having a job I liked any better. It is a blessing to work in an industry you have a passion for and that provides such extraordinary experiences and opportunities.
