THE JOB with MAX HULL

Max Hull
Age: 33Role: Underwriting TraineeWhat is your job? It's a rotational programme that exposes me to key business areas and roles within the organisation. During my first three months in the finance and accounting department, I was involved in the drafting of process narratives for our Sarbanes Oxley Optimisation Action Plan. I am currently working in the claims department, where I am learning how policies work and the importance of wording as a component of underwriting and claims. Upon completing my stint in this department, I will move on to risk modelling. I am certain that the diversity of experiences that are available through this rigorous training programme will provide me with a sound theoretical and practical foundation. It is upon this bedrock that I intend to build a very successful career.

What is the favourite part of your job? I am especially appreciative of the fact that my colleagues are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with me and thereby expedite the process of my learning. It has definitely made approaching certain tasks much less daunting.

What is the least favourite part of your job? At this point, I cannot identify any area of my job that causes me grief. However, as a person who is very organised and goal-oriented, I sometimes wish that I could make a more significant contribution to several long-term projects, even as a I recognise that the layout of my training programme would not permit such a sustained commitment of time.

What is your most interesting experience at work? Strangely enough, I had always wondered how people managed to get their profiles published in The Royal Gazette, so you could imagine my surprise at being asked to write one.

What would you be doing otherwise? I'd be travelling, experiencing new cultures and learning more languages.
