White House: AIG had extraordinary amount of aid

WASHINGTON (reuters) - American International Group Inc has already received an extraordinary amount of government assistance, the White House said Friday, when asked whether the government was in the mood to help out the company again.

"Obviously an extraordinary amount of assistance was rendered in 2008 to prevent the giant collapse of AIG," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

AIG reported a quarterly loss of $8.9 billion, hurt by loss reserves and efforts to repay the U.S. government as it struggles to find its feet more than a year after its $182.3 billion rescue.
