Butterfield Bank's common shares rose 10 percent (15 cents) on The Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) yesterday.

The bank traded 11,300 shares to close at $1.65. It also transacted eight preference shares, but its share price held firm at $200.

The only other trader was The Ascendant Group Ltd., which climbed 6.61 percent (90 cents) to $14.50, as 1,400 shares changed hands.

The Index, as a whole, advanced 79.67 points (6.33 percent) to 1,339.02, with 12,700 shares worth BD$37,956.20 and eight shares worth US$9,876.44 traded.

The BSX insurance Index, meanwhile, edged up 10 points (1.07 percent) to 945.
