Busy week on BSX

Banking, insurance, utilities and the consumer sector were the busiest industries on The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) last week.

The banks took the biggest hit, with Butterfield Bank down 55 cents (5.3 percent) to $9.90, with 32,863 shares traded, and LOM (Holdings) Ltd. slipping five cents (1.3 percent) at $3.80, as 5,000 shares changed hands.

But the insurance companies did well, with BF&M Ltd. rising 50 cents (three percent) to $17 and Argus Group Holdings Ltd. trading 46 shares, but its value held firm.

It was also an active week for West Hamilton Holdings Ltd., which boosted its share price by 10 percent ($1) to $11, with 3,500 shares transacted.

However, it was mixed news on the utilities front, as Belco Holdings Ltd. fell $1 (5.6 percent), but KeyTech Ltd. inched up 20 cents (two percent).

Overall, the Index dropped 99.96 points (3.01 percent) to 3,317.04, with 66,175 shares worth $678,603.25 shares changing hands.

The BSX Insurance Index, meanwhile, fared better, closing up 1.9 points (0.21 percent) at 869.7.
