Butterfield falls 10%

Butterfield Bank fell 10.3 percent (75 cents) on The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday, sinking to its lowest level since January 2003.

The bank, which has seen its share price drop by 37.8 percent for the year to date, closed the day at $6.50, with 5,120 shares traded.

Other decliners included KeyTech Ltd., which decreased five cents (0.05 percent) to $10, as 1,564 shares changed hands, and Belco Holdings Ltd., down five cents (0.3 percent) to $16, with 2,000 shares transacted.

But Bermuda Commercial Bank finished the day up 3.6 percent (25 cents) at $7.25, as 220 shares were traded, Argus Group Holdings Ltd. inched up 0.6 percent (five cents) to $8.05, with 100 shares changing hands and Devonshire Industries Ltd. rose four percent (five cents) to $12.55, 100 shares traded.

Overall, the Index fell 128.76 points (4.76 percent) to 2,575.54, with 9,179 shares worth $86,245 transacted.

The BSX Insurance Index was also down, this time by 14.61 points (2.32 percent) at 613.69.
