Dominion Oil says offshore block has 'large' potential
NAIROBI (Bloomberg) - Dominion Petroleum Ltd., an oil and gas explorer with projects mainly in East Africa, said its concession in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania has a "large exploration potential."
An independent assessment, known as a Competent Persons Report, or CPR, showed the deepwater Block 7 east of the Tanzanian commercial capital of Dar es Salaam may contain 1.1 billion barrels of oil, Johnny Wadd, a spokesman for Dominion, said yesterday by e-mail.
The CPR was completed by Energy Resource Consultants Ltd., Dominion said in a statement yesterday.
The block covers an area of 8,492 square kilometres (3,279 square miles) and goes to depths of as much as 2,500 metres (8,202 feet), according to the Bermuda-based company's website.
