Future is bright at ZBM, says Perry

Fernance Perry: Optimistic.

The future is looking bright for ZBM - that is according to a major shareholder of Bermuda Broadcasting Company (BBC), Fernance Perry.

Mr. Perry said the broadcasting company was doing well, despite a number of comings and goings of personnel at the station in the past few months.

This follows a series of walk-outs by employees at BBC last year over alleged poor working conditions.

In December last year staff took industrial action as they staged a sick-out and the news went off air over working conditions and possible health concerns, having called a strike and picketed outside the ZBM/ZFB Radio and Television Studios in Prospect, Devonshire, citing poor working conditions, lack of a pay rise for four years and equipment always breaking down as the reasons for the action.

Meanwhile the company is still looking to replace Rick Richardson as CEO of BBC, with several presenters and reporters quitting in recent times. But all of this was refuted by Mr. Perry, who said the business was performing well.

"The company is forging ahead," he said.

"It is operating in the future and I think the future looks bright."

He said Mr. Richardson had to step down because of medical reasons, but added that he was still with the company.

"It is public information - he is still with the company, but, because of medical reasons, he is still working for the company in another capacity," said Mr. Perry.
