Sir John Swan to speak at human resources meeting
Sir John Swan will be the keynote speaker at The Bermuda Human Resource Association's (BHRA) 30th Anniversary Annual General Meeting at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess hotel tomorrow.
Sir John, who was recently voted Bermuda's most admired business leader in the September 2008 Research Innovations Omnibus Survey, will take centre stage at the event.
The Island's former Premier, who led the country during the financial downturn in the 1980s, will give an insight into today's global economic climate, its impact on Bermuda's employers and Bermuda's main challenges over the next five years.
In addition, Alf Oughton, MBE FIOD, a founding member of the BHRA, will make an opening speech about the change in the HR profession over the past 30 years.
The BHRA's mandate is to advocate the advancement of the profession and the development of its members.
"The role of the human resource professional has changed over the years.
"We have evolved from administrators of personnel policies to enablers of ever-changing business strategies," said Belinda Chiaramonte, BHRA president.
"HR is an essential and effective partner in developing and executing organisational strategy."
The BHRA has more than 220 members and it is estimated that there are about 300 human resource professionals in Bermuda.
The event runs from 12.15 p.m. to 2 p.m.
