Starr donates $1m for Haiti relief
Starr International Foundation (SIF), the charitable arm of Maurice (Hank) Greenberg's company, has donated $1 million to disaster relief efforts in Haiti.
SIF gave a grant of $750,000 to Partners in Health and $250,000 to the International Rescue Committee support efforts to deliver much-needed medical care, clean water and sanitation to survivors of the devastating earthquake.
Partners in Health delivers medical care to communities devastated by the earthquake. It has more than 100 doctors, 600 nurses and 4,000 employees on the ground in Haiti working from 12 existing PIH hospitals which were largely unaffected by the recent earthquake. PIH is currently working to strengthen available medical care in Port-au-Prince and to increase its capacity to treat more serious cases at PIH facilities outside the city.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is supporting efforts to assist overwhelmed local aid groups in providing medical care, clean water, and sanitation to earthquake survivors.
Mr. Greenberg, chairman of Starr International, sits on the board of Switzerland-based SIF.
