Tech Week seeks award nominees
Technology enthusiasts across Bermuda will be able to showcase their talents at Tech Week 2010 later this month.
The Department of E-commerce, which will be holding the event between April 28 and 30, has teamed up with the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative of Bermuda, AAC Saatchi & Saatchi and local sponsors to offer a number of public activities throughout the week.
Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce, Michael Scott, said: "Tech Week is an important event for all ages in the community. We are all touched by technology in some way every day. I encourage everyone to participate in the 2010 Tech Week activities."
The popular Technology Innovation Awards will be the focus of this year's schedule. The public is encouraged to go visit www.TechWeek.bm and nominate individuals and businesses that display creative uses and commitment to technology. There will be awards for each of the categories judged on the use of, and commitment to technology. The deadline for submissions is April 19.
TechArt is also back this year and artists can submit their digital photography, graphic art, or electronic illustration to the Bermuda Society of Arts. Entries will be put on display at the Gallery at City Hall on April 30, with an awards ceremony that evening.
The free Lunch & Learns sessions will again be hosted on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, where everyone is welcome to come and learn about the latest technical gadgets, processes and services on the Island. Of interest to small business owners and those considering selling goods and services over the Internet, is a planned workshop on managing customer billing and electronic payment.
For those who download music and movies regularly, there will also be a workshop on intellectual property laws featuring the dos and don'ts of copying of others' materials and potential legal ramifications, as well as a session on adaptive software, which will help those with audio or visual impairments to use a computer.
