Telecommunications reform workshops give firms a chance to air their views

Workshops designed to allow telecommuications companies to learn more about legislation to reform their industry were held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess yesterday.

Michael Scott, the Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce, said yesterday that the workshops, which continue today, represented the closing stage of consultation on the bills.

He said the Regulatory Authority Act and the Electronic Communications Act would "allow participants in the communications sector to deploy technology across previously segmented sector lines, and enjoy access to technology capacity that will drive innovation new services and new products for the residential and commercial customer".

Mr. Scott added: "Once the consolation process concludes any recommended refinements or change will be made to the draft consultation legislation and recalculated to the industry and then tabled in this session".
